Barras tames the Python

Competing in the in the Python Road Race near Maidenhead Team Plowman Craven showed their class against a 70 man field.
The racing kicked off under changeable conditions and began in earnest after a brief neutralised section. Soon as small group moved clear as the team under instruction sat comfortably in the belly of the peleton, waiting for the signal to move to the front and reel in the breakaways. With a few laps covered the orders came and the boys in Pink and Blue moved to the head of the race and began the chase.
Slowly eating in to the two and a half minute advantage the break was soon in sight, and with a around an hour of racing remaining the last of the group was captured. First Simon Richardson launched himself clear as the rain began to fall, putting a significant distance between himself and the peleton. Realising the threat that Richardson posed Grant Bayton (Sports Beans Willier) set off in pursuit taking with him new recruit Marc Perry and Simon Gaywood. Bayton's group made contact with Richardson with two laps remaining, and were joined a short while later by Barras and Gibb.
Attacking in the final miles Barras went clear with Bayton, the pair pressed on towards the finish deciding to leave it till the final metres. Opening up his sprint with 200 metres to go Barras quickly opened a large advantage taking the victory with both arms in the air. Simon Gaywood won the sprint for the final podium place with Richardson in 5th.
Barras explained his days efforts. "We sat back early on and then took control of the race and bought the break back, then it was just a natural selection and I found myself at the front with a few kilometres remaining. From there I was confident that I could pull off the win"
