Team Plowman Craven continued their recent successes with a text book victory in the Blackburn G.P. on Wednesday (23rd July).
Following on from victories just 3 days earlier from Gaywood, Barras and Oliphant, Plowman Craven took control of the race from the first few metres with Gibb going clear alone with under 500 metres covered. Behind the peleton was marshalled by his team mates as Gibb set about building a solid lead. The other competitors were however in no mood to allow him to escape and set about organising the chase.
Gibb held a metronomic pace for lap after lap as the chasers tried desperately to get back on to terms, defiant he battled on around the technical circuit holding on to a 30 second advantage. With the chasers now down to 7 riders including Plowman Craven's Oliphant, Barras and Gaywood who kept a wary eye on the other riders in the group as they shed yet more riders under the savage pace including Russell Downing (Pinarello RT) who was unable to follow the tempo set by the Pearl Izumi squad.
Coming into the final ten laps Graham Briggs set off in pursuit of Gibb, his initial acceleration cut into Gibb's advantage but it soon stabilized at 20 seconds. The lap board counted down and Team Captain Gibb could ease slightly and enjoy his success over the final laps crossing the line alone followed 15 seconds later by Briggs, with the sprint for third going to Bibby.
After the dousing the crowd with Champagne Gibb commented "That was perfect, I was clear from the gun and I knew the lads were controlling the race behind me. All I had to do was keep my rhythm, Graham was going really well and tried to get across to me in the finale but I had enough energy to hold on to my advantage till the line."
