Plowman Craven Coaches Club

9th December 2007

Plowman Craven Coaches ClubPlowman Craven Evans Cycles have formed an exciting partnership with newly formed Amersham RCC. Two of the pro team's riders have joined the club as honorary members to offer support and encouragement to those who want to race. Simon Gaywood and Tony Gibb will help the Club throughout the year after the Club approached them following the Archer GP.

Amersham RCC is the brainchild of Andrew Saunders who felt there were too few clubs in the Chiltern area, especially ones catering for riders with no race experience.

"The idea was to start a club for riders of any ability," he explained.

But they offered to come out on a few winter club runs and to give some coaching to members who were preparing for their first race."

Plowman Craven Coaches ClubThe first coaching session with Amersham took place in November at the Hillingdon Cycle Circuit in West London. Simon Gaywood and James Millard (standing in for Tony Gibb) spent a couple of hours with the Club as they prepared for their first fourth category race at the Circuit the following week. Both sides declared the session a success, especially when a number of the Amersham riders finished their race a week later safely in the pack.

Plowman Craven Evans Cycles' Jonathan O'Neil was keen to emphasise the importance of such links.

"Strong grass roots are essential for any sport, and there would not be any elite cycling without them," he said.Photo: Gaywood and Millard master class

"Hillingdon Cycle Circuit is home to a number of our riders and we are excited about helping Amersham prepare for their first race there. We hope to form similar relationships with other clubs across the Country close to where our riders live."
