Plowman Craven Evans Cycles have named their squad for the Tour of Britain which begins in London on 9 September.
The six-man team is the same as rode the recent Tour of Ireland: Gordon McCauley, Tony Gibb, Simon Gaywood, James McCallum, James Millard and Simon Richardson.
Plowman Craven Evans Cycles> come to the Tour of Britain on the back of a successful season of racing. The Team have already won three National titles this season, including the National Criterium Championship and the National 25 mile three-up Team Time Trial Championship, as well as three rounds of the British Cycling Premier Calendar road race series. They also lead both the National Team and Individual road race rankings and the National Circuit Series, and have been breaking TT records on courses across the Country.
Gordon McCauley, second overall this season in the Premier Calendar series and runner-up in the recent Tour of Ireland King of the Mountains competition, has also been selected to represent his native New Zealand in the forthcoming World Championships. And Plowman Craven Evans Cycles' recent signing Simon Richardson will be joining his team mates straight from representing Great Britain at the World Mountain Bike Championships at Fort William.
Plowman Craven Evans Cycles join an impressive line up of teams for the Tour of Britain, including four teams who took part in this year's Tour de France. Agritubel, Team CSC, T Mobile and Barloworld are among 16 teams competing in the 950km race, which starts with a time trial at Crystal Palace in London and finishes seven days later in Glasgow. The route of the race goes through the South of England, Somerset and the West Midlands before crossing into Yorkshire and finishing in Scotland.
"The Tour of Britain is the highlight of our season," commented Simon Barnes, team founder and boss of Hertfordshire based Geomatics company Plowman Craven. "We've had a fantastic year so far and proved that we are among the very best teams in Britain. Riding the Tour of Ireland was great final preparation and we are hoping for a good result - we may not be among the favourites for the GC but you will certainly see the pink and blue train out at the front and in the breaks!"
