Plowman Craven Evans Cycles achieved four riders, including the first and third, in the first ten at the High Wycombe road race this Sunday (18 March).
Gordon McCauley delivered a clear message that his target of winning this
years Premier Calendar title is on track by taking the event in style.
Team mate Simon Gaywood was close behind at third, with James Millard narrowly
loosing out on fourth as the bunch raced for the line. He eventually finished
seventh. Tony Gibb completed Plowman Craven’s strong presence by
finishing tenth.
Speaking after the race Gordon commented:
“I’m pleased with the way the race went, both for myself and the Team. I want to win the Premier Calendar this year and achieve a time trial ride at the World’s, and my performance this weekend tells me I’m on track for both.
“The level of competition at this point in the season is about the same as when I won the Premier Calendar in 1999. The difference this year is that I’m part of a strong, professional outfit that can support and work with each other to win races. To achieve four riders in the top ten as we did this weekend shows the strength in depth we have; we regularly have a number of guys spread over the top places, and there are a number of good team’s riding against us this year. It’s set to be an exciting season for British cycling.”
Simon Barnes, Team founder and boss of Herts based Geomatics company Plowman Craven, added:
“This was another good ride for the Team and shows that we are currently the strongest trade squad out there at the moment. With riders consistently in the top ten and constantly involved in attacks and breakaways our profile is high, and this can only help to convince other companies that cycling is a real marketing option.”
Next Sunday (25 March) Plowman Craven Evans Cycles Race Team will ride the Hounslow Spring Road Race. James Taylor will also contest the Abergavveny Handicaps the day before (Saturday 24 March).
