Plowman Craven Evans Cycles Racing Team has signed the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors as their latest sponsor for 2007. The RICS, which represents and sets standards for professionals involved in land, property, construction and environmental issues across the UK, joins the UCI registered Continental trade team a week after they announced Evans Cycles as co-sponsors.
Now in their second year the team is already one of the most successful in the Country. Set-up by Simon Barnes, former rider and boss of the Herts based surveying company Plowman Craven, the link with the RICS reinforces his view that sponsoring a cycle team is a fruitful marketing strategy for companies:
“Investing in professional cycling is a serious marketing option for anyone looking to raise their profile and excellent value for money. The interest shown in the Team by Plowman Craven clients and potential clients has been tremendous. For the RICS to join us clearly demonstrates that investing in a pro cycling team is no longer the reserve of cycling fanatics!”
James Kavanagh of the RICS added: “The RICS is delighted to be associated with the Team this season. It is a fantastic opportunity for us to raise our profile and also to demonstrate our commitment to sustainable transport and combating climate change/CO2 emissions.”
Although the Team is yet to announce their race programme for 2007, getting a ride in the Tour of Britain is high on their agenda and a distinct possibility if they perform as well as last season. Barnes believes that achieving a place would be good news for sponsors:
“Securing a place in this year’s Tour would be tremendous for raising the profile of the Team and our sponsors. With massive crowds lining the route and over three hours of coverage from the BBC, the Tour is a great showcase for companies and demonstrates that professional cycling is a commercially viable marketing option.”
